Dr. Wang Chong, Professor of Dalian University of Technology, China, gave a special lecture on how we perceive the world from the perspective of linguistics on December 20.

Two guests from Hungkuang University, Taiwan, gave special lectures to SGU students on December 12. Dr. Tiger Tien, Dean of International and Cross-Strait Affairs, gave a special lecture titled “Creativity in Advertising” and Dr. Ching-Mei Cheng, Chair of Department of English for Global Communication gave a special lecture titled “The Importance of Intercultural Competency in Foreign Language Acquisition”.

SGU held an International Exchange Fair from October 28 to November 1. During the week, study abroad program participants made presentations about their experiences. Various booths were set up in the Common’s Cafe where visitors could talk to exchange students, gain information about scholarships, English circles, and partner institutions.

On October 21, 2019, Shokei Gakuin University (SGU) and Lingnan Normal University (LNU) signed a Memorandum of Understanding to establish cooperative relations aimed at developing academic and cultural interchange. The signing ceremony was held at the LNU campus in Zhanjiang, Guangdong, R.P. China. The attendees at the ceremony were Vice President, Dr. Prof. Dai Shu, Deputy Dean and Director of the Japanese Department, Dr. Prof.Yang Hong, Director, Office of International Exchange and Cooperation, Mr. Zheng Zhijun, Second Chief of International Exchange and Cooperation, Mr. Li Zishen, and administrative staff from LNU. Representing SGU were Dr. Prof. Marie Aizawa Phelan, Dean of International Exchange and Dr. Prof. Meiying Huang, Dean of Academic Affairs. After the signing ceremony, Dr. Meiying Huang of SGU delivered a special lecture for students of LNU’s Japanese Department, School of Foreign Studies.

On October 11, 2019, Shokei Gakuin University (SGU) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Herzen State Pedagogical University of Russia (HSPUR) to establish cooperative relations aimed at developing academic and cultural interchange. The signing ceremony was held at the HSPUR campus in St. Petersburg, Russia. The attendees at the ceremony from HSPUR were Vice-Rector Dr. Yulia A. Komarova and Prof. Anastasia Myklyaeva. Representing SGU were Prof. Takeyau Kawabata, Vice Dean of International Exchange, and Associate Prof. Dr. Kazuhiro Ikeda. On this occasion, the 2nd International Conference of Herzen Studies: Psychology Research in Education was held at HSPUR. Prof. Kawabata delivered a keynote speech and Dr. Ikeda gave an oral presentation at the conference.

Shokei Gakuin welcomes an exchange student from Pai Chai University, Korea for a year stay and two exchange students from the School of Foreign Languages of Zhejiang Yuexiu University, China for a year stay.

Ten SGU students of International Exchange Practice (Korea) visited Seoul, Korea for ten-day overseas training session.

Two SGU students of International Exchange Practice (China) visited Dalian, China for eleven-day overseas training session with Dalian University of Technology, a partner university of SGU.

Eleven SGU students visited Olympic College, WA, USA, to participate in the two-week English language and culture program.

One SGU student went to Olympic College in Bremerton, WA, USA as an exchange student for a year stay.

Nine SGU students visited Pai Chai University, Daejeon, Korea to participate in the two-week intensive Korean language and culture program.

Thirteen SGU students visited Cairns, Australia to participate in the internship programs.

Four SGU students visited Hungkuang University, Taichung, Taiwan to participate in the two-week intensive Chinese language and culture program.

Two delegates from The University of Danang - University of Science and Education; Dr. Luu Trang, Rector and Dr. Pham Quy Muoi, Head of Department of Scientific Affairs and International Cooperation visited SGU on July 23 to 26 to make a presentation on their university and to discuss further international exchange activities.

Ms. Mikako Garard, Instructor of Department of Communication at Santa Barbara City College, visited SGU and discussed the possibilities of future exchange activities on July 12.

Mr. Alex Kremer, Director of Corporate Development, Patagonia, CA, USA, gave a special lecture on his company producing eco-friendly system of recycling their products at Shokei on July 9th. He stressed the needs of reuse, reduce, and recycle in order to save our planet. The first step is to repair the products and use them again. “Worn Wear” project was also on campus that Patagonia team actually repaired sixty students’ clothes for two days from July 8 to 9. This event was hosted by Prof. Maki Tamada, a faculty member of College of Humanities and Social Studies of SGU.

April, 2019

Shokei Gakuin University changed its organizational structure in April, 2019. It has a graduate school with three master’s courses, in Psychology, Humanics, and Nutritional Sciences. The undergraduate school consists of three colleges: Humanities and Social Studies, Psychology and Education, and Human Health and Nutrition.
