Shokei Gakuin University and The School of Foreign Languages, Dalian University of Technology, 2 Linggong Road, Ganjingzi District, Dalian City, Liaoning Province, P. R. C., 116024, China, signed an inter-university exchange agreement on May 2nd, 2012. Participating in the signing from Shokei were President Komei Sasaki, Dr. Huang Meiying, Professor of the Department for the Study of Contemporary Society, and Ms. Ikumi Endo, staff member of Shokei’s Public Relations Department. In attendance from Dalian University of Technology were Professor Qin Mingli, Dean, Professor You Zhishen, Vice Dean, and Professor Li Xiaoping from the School of Foreign Languages. Both universities agreed to exchange students and faculty members, as well as to conduct joint research projects. Dalian University of Technology was founded in 1949. The School of Foreign Languages has six foreign language departments: Japanese, English, French, Russian, and Korean. Five hundred students, including undergraduate and graduate students, study in the school. To celebrate the occasion, Dr. Komei Sasaki, president of Shokei Gakuin University, gave a special lecture on the Economics of Happiness.

Ms. Janet Pace, Executive Director of the Louisiana Serve Commission, Louisiana, USA, paid a visit to Shokei Gakuin University on March 9th, 2012. Ms. Pace serves as Director of Volunteer Outreach for the Commission and is responsible for promoting an ethic of service throughout the state by creating and implementing strategic volunteer initiatives and supporting collaborative efforts among nonprofits, faith-based organizations and state agencies. Based on her experience organizing volunteer work after Hurricane Katrina, Ms. Pace talked about how people can connect with each other and participate in volunteer work effectively. Ms. Pace was visiting Japan on the occasion of the one-year anniversary of The Great East Japan Earthquake and some 100 Natori City citizens, along with Shokei Gakuin University students and faculty members, listened to her lecture. The event was sponsored by Shokei Gakuin University and the U.S. Consulate General Sapporo.
