December 27, 2018, Shokei Gakuin University signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Olympic College (OC), Washington, USA. This MoU is to establish cooperative relations between the two institutions, especially to develop academic and cultural interchange. The signing ceremony was held at the main campus of OC in Bremerton, WA. Dr. Marty Cavalluzzi, President of OC, and Mr. Takafumi Goda, President of SGU signed the MoU.

Dr. Marie Aizawa Phelan, Dean of International Exchange at Shokei Gakuin University, gave a keynote lecture titled “English Language Education in Japan: A Turning Point” at the International Conference on Linguistics in Vietnam, held at University of Danang – University of Science and Education (UED), Vietnam, on December 15.

This MoA is to enhance student exchange between the two institutions. The signing Ceremony was held at UED, Da Nang, Vietnam. Dr. Seth Clippard, Assistant Professor at Hungkuang University, Taiwan, gave a special lecture titled “In between and beyond: Facets of communication between Americans and Taiwanese” on December 6.

Dr. Li Xiaoping, Professor and Head of the Japanese Language and Literature Center at Dalian University of Technology, China, gave a special lecture on changes in clothing, food and housing of the Chinese people since the Chinese economic reform on November 28.

SGU held an International Exchange Fair from October 22-26. During the week, study abroad program participants made presentations about their experiences. Various booths were set up in the Common’s Cafe at SGU where visitors could talk to exchange students, gain information about scholarships, English circles, and SGU sister schools.

SGU Choir sang at Taiwan-Japan Friendship Concert with Yamaarashi Choir, a choral group of Tainan Zeelandia Dementia Association, and Tsubasa Choir, a choral group of premature dementia support group in Sendai.

Shokei Gakuin University signed the Pledge of Agreement on UMAP Multilateral Student Exchange Program and became a member of UMAP universities. UMAP, University Mobility in Asia and the Pacific, consists of more than 570 member universities from 35 countries. This agreement will provide various international exchange programs for SGU students.
