Three Educational Policies

Diploma Policy

Graduation is recognized and a bachelor’s degree is awarded by SHOKEI GAKUIN UNIVERSITY to students who have completed the University’s required curriculum, who possess the spirit and general knowledge to engage independently in solving the various problems of our unpredictable and rapidly changing contemporary society based on the University’s founding spirit, who have acquired the basic knowledge for a comprehensive understanding of humanity in an increasingly diverse international community, and who have acquired the abilities and motivation to bring all of the above together to contribute to their local communities.

Specifically, emphasis is placed on the acquisition of the following abilities and the cultivation of the following attitudes.

  1. Empathy (ability to respect others based on pride in oneself and an understanding of one’s own differences from others)

  4. Fundamental, universal knowledge and skills beyond one’s own field of specialization

Curriculum Policy

Curriculum of SHOKEI GAKUIN UNIVERSITY is structured and implemented in accordance with the following policy, with the objective of cultivating the abilities and attitudes declared in the Diploma Policy.

  1. Upholding goals that are conscious of the relationship with the Diploma Policy of the University as a whole for liberal arts subjects as well as specialized subjects, compulsory and elective subjects will be deployed systematically, and prerequisites will be established. Clear curriculum diagrams will be provided to assist individual students to learn in a systematic manner.
  2. Class subjects that support the early transition to university learning will be deployed, taking individual students’ study circumstances prior to enrollment into account.
  3. To meet diverse student needs, students will be able to take interdisciplinary courses across different departments.
  4. An environment of small-group education will be established, including interactive classes that allow each student to acquire diverse perspectives and deep expertise. In particular, all students will be assured of the opportunity to engage in graduation research or participate in seminar groups, in accordance with the characteristics of the individual departments.
  5. SHOKEI GAKUIN UNIVERSITY values learning through interactions with diverse people outside the University, based on practical education that focuses on the real world. For this reason, all students will be allowed to take courses that entail hands-on learning in the field, as designated by each department.
  6. Education using appropriate methods to achieve the objectives of each class subject will be conducted, including active learning and problem-solving learning. Extra-curricular assignments will be indicated clearly in the syllabus to encourage students to learn independently.
  7. The methods and criteria for evaluation of results in accordance with the goals of each class will be clearly indicated in the syllabus in advance. On that basis, students’ results will be rigorously evaluated after the class has been conducted and the degree of comprehensive learning achievement will be evaluated, based on surveys of the students and other means.

Admissions Policy

Based on the education philosophy of the University, the goal of education has been set as follows: With the aim of cultivation of character based on Christian principles, and in accordance with the provisions of the Basic Act on Education and the School Education Act, SHOKEI GAKUIN UNIVERSITY will deliver broad knowledge and conduct deep teaching and research of specialized arts and sciences, to cultivate people who can contribute to the enhancement of culture and to the welfare of humankind from global perspectives.
